The eyes are often seen as the most attractive part of a person. And quite often the thing we are most attracted too in the opposite sex. That said, as women, we should try to take advantage of this, and where possible make use of makeup to enhance our features.

Eyeshadow is a item in any female’s make up collection – shading your eyes can make eyes look bigger and enhance color and shape – accentuating your eyes and making them look prettier. It’s imperative to get the colors right for your skin tone and eye color, otherwise you run the risk of looking dull and withdrawn.

Any good MUA will tell you that shading eyes is an art, which requires skill. You need a good understanding of different skin types, tones, eye color and the large variety of color palettes available. This article isn’t designed to recommend or tell you which kinds of eyeshadows to buy, but you more help you when deciding what colors will suit your skin tone and in turn make your eyes look more beautiful.

To make it easier, I have separated this into 2 areas:

EYE SHADOW FOR WOMEN WHO HAVE FAIR SKIN:

  • Avoid Grey Shades

Many fair skin women like to use shades of grey. Shading your eyes with silver colored eye shadow for example is popular for nights out and gives an element of glamour – however, this look is really suited to women with darker skin tone as opposed to women with a lighter complexion. Unfortunately for the fair skinned woman, it can often give you a bit of washed out, tired look and in some cases can make the eye area look a little “bruised” – so it’s advised to really stay away from this color palette on your eyes.

  • Maintain pigment color wash

A sheer wash of color pigment looks more beautiful on fair skin than that looks on the darker skin. So, stay sheer when you are applying your eye shadow. Soft greens, cool pinks and taupe give a very flattering look. On the other hand, highly pigmented shades – so bright color blocks tend to overpower the eyes so you should tend to avoid those.

  • Contour to your eyes lightly

Be careful when contouring your eyes. Make the shadow two to three times darker than the natural skintone. Do it lightly, otherwise the contoured lids may overshadow the rest of your eye.

EYE SHADOW FOR DARK SKIN WOMEN

  • Avoid Ashy Shades

Darker skinned women have more to consider than their lighter skinned counterparts. Ashy shades make fair skinned women more beautiful, but its not always the same for a darker skinned woman. Ashy shades can sometimes appear dull and gloomy on darker skin. Shading your eyes with more vibrant colors will tone down your skin.

  • Deep shadow will stand out

Soft or light shadows can’t be seen as easily on darker skin, but it does fade away. If you want a natural look, then you should however, consider soft shadow. If you want to stand out from others, then use the warm shadow which are vibrant in pigment. Purple berries or metallic golds work well for this look.

  • Line boldly

Women with darker skin should line boldly with eyeliners. Eyeliner can really make a huge difference to how an woman’ eye looks, Though, brown and grey eyeliners can give a beautiful look for fair skinned women, but darker skin should be lined boldly – with black eyeliner.

There is so much more that you can do with eyes, and differing color palettes – they say the eyes are the key to your soul, so it’s important to dress them appropriately.
